The Largest Upset of the Season

Last week Michigan State beat USC 41-34, pulling off a massive upset. According to Sportsbook odds, this was the largest of Season 21. The Trojans were favored by 15.5 points by the oddsmakers. However, QB Cole Mantell and company had other plans.

Mantell threw for 471 passing yards and 94 rushing yards and added 4 total touchdowns. A lot of his passing production went to WR Marco Gonzalez, who had 10 catches for 181 yards. WR Jimbo Hawk also went over 100 yards and he added a pair of touchdowns.

Michigan State had 14 total tackles for loss, which had a big impact on USC’s production. DE John Baer (4 TFLs) and MLB Timmy Britt (3) lived in the Trojan backfield all night.

This is the biggest win in the young history of Michigan State and it busted the conference wide open. This race just got really interesting.

Put One in the Win Column

The Michigan Wolverines have struggled to get their first win despite some impressive play this season. Well, the monkey is off their back. This week Oregon hosted Michigan and the Wolverines feasted on some Duck.

QB Windham Carter threw for 449 passing yards and seven total touchdowns. He picked apart the Oregon defense, which included some long passes to WR CJ Jones. Jones had 170 receiving yards on only 6 catches. He also found the endzone twice, with one trip coming off a 67-yard bomb. The running game worked great as well. HB Collin MacElroy had 105 yards and a TD on 22 carries.

The defense did their part as well. They had a combined 14 tackles for loss. That charge was led by DE Brooks Ike, who had 9 tackles, 4 TFLs, 2 sacks, and a forced fumble. CB Amarion Xander Martel forced another turnover with an interception. They held Oregon in check all night.

The final score was 62-34 and Michigan got their first win of Season 21. If they can win out from here, they will have a great chance of making the playoffs. The story isn’t over for the Wolverines.
