The Crimson Skies

The Alabama Crimson Tide has always been known (for the most part) as a pass-first offense. This week, however, they took it to a new level against Georgia.

Alabama QB Johnny Ray Davis threw for 607 passing yards and had six total touchdowns. That is the 4th most passing yards in a single game in Alabama history. Four different Alabama players had more than 100 receiving yards. They were WRs Kyle Claxon (139 yards), David Williams (130), Troy Tree (103), and HB CryZen Mai (101). This was a career-high for Mai and a season-high for Williams.

This performance was enough to push the Crimson Tide over Georgia, despite a comeback effort by the Bulldogs. The final score was 48-40. This was a big win for Alabama. It put them one step closer to the playoffs and kept them alive in the hunt for a conference title chance. And it is all thanks to the Crimson Tide pass attack.

Regular Season Dominance

The Auburn Tigers have been brilliant in the regular season since Justin Duke took over. They have won 14 straight regular-season games after beating Tennessee this week.

Tennessee QB Sterling Verdugo put up a fight. He threw for 445 yards and three touchdowns in an impressive performance. However, it wasn’t enough to keep up with the balanced Tiger attack.

Auburn QB Jay Duke was on fire. He threw for 444 yards and six touchdowns while adding 49 yards on the ground. WR Bobby Green was on the receiving end of seven of Duke’s catches and made the most of them. He had 155 receiving yards, averaging more than 22 yards per catch. HB Thomas Scally, who is already surpassed his great season from last year, was equally as impressive. Scally had 20 carries for 145 rushing yards and two total touchdowns.

In total, the Auburn offense had 638 total yards. The Tigers were five of six in the redzone and converted 80% of their third downs. This was close to a perfect game offensively.

The Tigers have two more games this season and neither is going to be an easy one. However, Duke and Auburn have yet to lose in the regular season. Can they keep this up?

Kentucky Flapjacks

This week Kentucky remained perfect in conference play with an impressive 55-34 win over Florida. This season Kentucky has been impressive on both sides of the football, but there is one part of their offense that is being overlooked. The selfless and dominating play of their weapons has been a big key to their success.

The Kentucky Wildcats serve up more pancakes than IHOP. This week there were four different Wildcats that had at least six pancake blocks. They were WRs Ricky Rak (24), Malachi Cobb (16), Lemandon Lloyd (9), and TE Deshaun Booker (6). Rak’s 24 is the 4th most in a single game in the Modern Era.

Kentucky WR Ricky Rak nailed the defender for a big pancake.

And this is not a new development. Every week Kentucky players are running untouched down the field past the downed bodies of their enemies. Rak, Cobb, and Lloyd are all in the top 5 this season in pancake blocks. Booker is 9th.

In the CFSL it isn’t rare for a team to have a wideout that is an elite blocker. However, it is very rare to have four guys on the same roster who are dominant blockers. Good luck to opposing defenses and keep your head on a swivel. Kentucky isn’t done serving up flapjacks.

Potential SEC Game of the Week for Week 7

It has to be Auburn vs Kentucky. While all three games in the SEC are great matchups, this one has to take the cake. Kentucky can win the SEC crown with a win in this game. Auburn can claim the SEC title with a win and an Alabama loss (or by beating Alabama next week). This has made this game a de facto conference championship of sorts. Both teams have stacked offenses and bone-crushing defenses. This game is a must-watch matchup.
