Josh Claydon (@Wookie) is back in the AD ranks! The CFSL Hall of Fame AD is taking over the LSU Tigers this season. I had the chance to sit down with Claydon and ask him about his decision to come back, why he didn’t return to Notre Dame, and more. Here is that interview.
Question: What made you decide to come back to the AD ranks?
Josh Claydon: Honestly just the thrill of the competition. I found it hard to just be a coach on a staff and stay as engaged as I would like to be. I also would like to prove my metal vs these newer guys and see if this HOFer still has what it takes.
Q: The name Wookie has been synonymous with Notre Dame in the CFSL. However, you didn’t choose to come back to the Irish. Why?
JC: I accomplished all there is to do in South Bend. I don’t feel there is any unfinished business at Notre Dame, however I feel there is unfinished business in my career. I love Notre Dame and always will, but it was time for a new chapter
Q: What was the draw that brought you to LSU?
JC: It just seems right. The culture, attitude, and mentality of the Bayou Bengals. It just seems like a perfect fit. A lot of these guys didn’t see me AD but my mindset and the way I run a team just never really seemed to match ND. I’m cocky brash and loud while the ND is more conservative. I don’t think there’s a better fit for me than LSU. A match made in CFSL Heaven.
Q: LSU is a team with a solid past, but a lot of turnover, especially at the AD spot. Do you think you can bring stability to the team?
JC: Stability is exactly what LSU is going to get from me. I’m here to reclaim my spot atop of the CFSL world and I have a great staff that is bought in and ready to show off what we can do. The future is very bright for the Tigers.
Q: What are some of the goals you have for your team in the first season?
JC: Step one already completed. We added some excited guys to the staff with the youth of Ryder and the AD experience of Loki and Konvict we have a great mix. Step two is to compete for the best class of the CFSL we have some spots to fill and we have a game plan to attack. Step 3 Win week 1. Step 4 win the B12. Step 5 win the whole damn thing.
Best of luck to Claydon and his Tigers this season.
