The Inaugural CFSL Three-Star Draft is just a few days away and the hype train on these top recruits is blowing up. That means we need to talk about the top recruits in the class.
While some diamonds are in the rough in this class, we will focus on the top end. Here are the top 20 recruits going into the draft.
Note: This is the recruits as the rank right now (Thursday the 19th). This could change as players hit late upgrades before the draft.
#20 TE Grayson Lee
Grayson Lee is a powerful blocker, who can add extra yards to the end of runs and the short passing game. The Nashville native grew up on a farm and it shows in his build. Lee has made a name for himself by dominating defenders in blocking assignments, but he also has underrated hands. The potential is there for him to be one of the best well-rounded tight ends in the league. Even if he misses that goal, whoever grabs him will end up with a right tackle with speed and hands.
#19 MLB Markion Maynor
The pride of Milton, Georgia is heading to the CFSL. Maynor is a true middle linebacker who excels against the run and the pass. His speed helps him make plays sideline to sideline. The Mayor of Defense, as he will be known by me from here on out, is a player with plenty of upside. Keep an eye on him in the draft.
#18 FS Amari Leconte
Amari Leconte has a smooth name and even smoother play. The Atlanta native grew up on a football field and it shows in his football knowledge. Leconte excels in pass coverage thanks to his ability to rarely be out of position. Leconte also is a guy that could be a great locker-room presence. Drafting Leconte gives you a centerfielder on the back of the defense who is a glue guy in the locker room.
#17 CB Miles Shakur
Miles Shakur has the potential to be a lockdown corner at the next level. The New York native excels in coverage but can make tackles in the run game as well. He also has the ability to play in the slot, which should help him get game time early in his career. If he continues to improve during his career, this would be a great early pick.
#16 MLB Chris Vasquez
Chris Vasquez is a simple guy. He gets on the field, shuts down offenses, and gets off. No frills, no glamour, just a meat and potatoes linebacker. The Ramona, California product lets his play do the talking and it speaks volumes. There is a strong need for linebackers in this draft, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see Vasquez go early.
#15 FS Dillon Myles
Dillon Myles is one of the most intriguing free safeties in the draft. Myles is from Collinsville, Mississippi where he was a star at West Lauderdale High. The rangy safety locks down half the field, especially against the deep ball. While he isn’t your typical trash-talking DB, Myles isn’t afraid to mix it up. The potential for him to be great on and off the field is apparent.
#14 CB Zach Egg
Zach Egg is the first transfer name on our list. Egg is heading into his senior season after spending two seasons with Illinois and one with Ohio State. While he didn’t see much playing time last season, his last season at Illinois he showed a lot of promise. That season he had 26 tackles and two pass deflections in a depth role. Egg has the skill to make big plays for whoever drafts him.
#13 CB Adrian Jordan III
Adrian Jordan III is another transfer corner. Jordan, who will be a junior this season, spent the first two seasons with Colorado. He improved from season to season and accounted for 30 tackles, one interception, and one pass breakup last season. Jordan is a proven asset and a talented corner who can start on the outside or play in the slot.
#12 HB Hendrix Dodd
There are quite a few teams that could use a running back in the draft. Unfortunately for them, there is only one in the draft pool. Luckily for whoever lands Hendrix Dodd, the one that is left is talented. The four-star out of Caldwell, West Virginia stands a 5’11” 200lbs, but has the room to add weight to his frame. Hendrix is ready to start out of the gate but is likely best used as a backup behind a great back for a season before taking over the starter role.
#11 CB Corey Poole
Four-star Corner Corey Poole is just on the edge of making the top ten on our list. The ballhawk out of Dallas, Georgia has risen up draft boards leading up to the draft. Don’t expect him to be waiting around long to be picked. And for good reason. Poole is a coverage corner, who can make plays around the ball.
#10 WR Jadon Charles
Fort Myers, Florida is known as a football factory and the latest product lives up to that legacy. Jadon Charles is a talented balanced wideout, who is capable of doing anything a coach can ask of him. His calling himself GOAT material speaks to his confidence. To make that dream a reality, he will need to continue to improve his game, but the potential is there.
#9 WR Quan King
Quan King isn’t just an awesome name. This kid has some real talent. The wideout from the Bronx has skyrocketed up draft boards this past week. Now he finds himself in the top 10 of the draft board. He is the first to admit that he isn’t a polished route runner yet, but his ability to get off the line and get separation will carry him while he works on the kinks.
#8 TE Bryan McGuire
Byran McGuire is the second-highest-rated tight end in the draft class. The Quantico, Virginia native does have a few questions about his priorities (just read his bio if you don’t believe me), but the physical skills are all there. At 6’3″, 235lbs McGuire has great size already and has the room to add to his frame. There are plenty of teams needing a tight end still, so McGuire could be quick off the board.
#7 TE James Triplett
James Triplett is the best tight end in the class. The Fredericksburg, Virginia native grew up just 40 minutes away from Bryan McGuire, so the two are familiar with each other. Triplett stands at 6’1″, 250 lbs, and is a fantastic blocking tight end. While he made his name by pancaking defenders, Triplett is also an accomplished pass catcher. This is a player that is ready to start on day one.
#6 MLB Jefferson Miller
Jefferson Miller is still listed as a three-star, but don’t let that fool you. This kid is a stud. The middle linebacker from Buffalo, Oklahoma has a CFSL pedigree with his uncle (Jackson Miller) playing at Kentucky and his brother (JT Miller) playing for West Virginia. The Miller family will now add another defender to the CFSL. One team is going to get an underrated dog in the middle of their defense.
#5 FS Demontrey Bones
You either love or hate Demontrey Bones and there is no in-between. The former Texas and Illinois player is in the draft before his senior season. He has amassed 43 tackles, four pass breakups and one forced fumble in his career so far. Bones took off the Season 21 but is back for one last season. Whoever gets him will get a veteran presence in their DB room.
#4 WR Houston Begley
If you read the top transfers of this season article from two days ago then you are familiar with this name. Begley had back-to-back 770+ yard seasons with Syracuse in Seasons 19 and 20. Just like Bones, Begley also took Season 21 off. Now he is back to put up numbers just like he did in his first two seasons. Begley will be off the board quickly in this draft, as he should be.
#3 FS Silk Jefferson
Silk Jefferson (great name) is a five-star recruit out of Flippin, Arkansas (great hometown name). The talented coverage-free safety is a top-three prospect in this draft class and the best free safety in the class. Expect him to go early in this draft and expect to hear the broadcast team use the term “Silky Smooth” a lot during Jefferson’s career.
#2 DE Ragon Sinn
Ragon Sinn is a four-star defensive lineman who has turned heads leading up to the draft. The Fort Lauderdale native can play either tackle or end along the defensive front. Sinn has a lot of talent, is versatile, and appears to be a great locker-room guy based on his activity. This makes him a can’t-miss prospect who most likely doesn’t survive the top three picks.
#1 SS Billy Davis
The late addition to the draft pool has surged right to the top of the draft board. The Sitka, Alaska is a speedy safety who is a sure tackler. Davis is a headhunter over the middle and is great in coverage. Even though he came into the conversation late in the process, Davis has become the top prospect. He will go early, which will be disappointing to all the teams that draft later.
Congrats to everyone who made this list and good luck to all the recruits and transfers that are in the draft pool!
