We haven’t updated the MacGuffin for a while and a few of you have asked for it. So, let’s dive into what has happened with the MacGuffin since the last time we saw it.
Before we dive in, let’s go over what the MacGuffin is for anyone who might not know. Starting in the very first game in league history, the winner received the MacGuffin Trophy. If that team won, they kept the trophy. If they lost, they passed the trophy to the team that beat them. Most simply, the only way to lose the MacGuffin is to lose. The only way to get the MacGuffin is to beat the team who has it.
In the CFSL, we don’t include the playoffs in the MacGuffin to make it more interesting. After all, the National Champion would have the MacGuffin at the end of the season 99% of the time.
End of Season 20
The last time we updated the MacGuffin Texas had won the Season 20 MacGuffin Championship by ending the season holding the trophy. Now let’s follow its travels through the league.
Season 21
Week One
Texas played North Carolina in the first game of Season 21. The Tar Heels won this game 48-28 and North Carolina stole the MacGuffin.
Week Two
The Tar Heels didn’t hold onto the MacGuffin for long. They played the Auburn Tigers in the second week of Season 21 after beating the Tar Heels 44-23.
I will save us some time here. Auburn didn’t lose another regular season game in Season 21. This means that the Auburn Tigers were the Season 21 MacGuffin Champions! Don’t worry, Season 22 gets a lot more interesting.
Season 22
Week One
Some might say there is a MacGuffin Championship hangover after the trophy changed hands in back-to-back week ones. Auburn started the season with a loss to Florida State, giving the Seminoles the MacGuffin. The final score was 37-30.
Week Two
The MacGuffin didn’t stay in Tallahassee long. The Seminoles packed it with them for the trip to Columbus, Ohio and then they left it there. The Ohio State Buckeyes beat Florida State 31-30 in Week Two to steal the MacGuffin.
Week Three
Ohio State barely escaped Kentucky with the MacGuffin Trophy, but they did. The final score was 47-41 and the Buckeyes keep the trophy.
Week Four
The Buckeyes once again defended the MacGuffin Trophy with a 43-24 win over Penn State. However, getting to this point means the MacGuffin will be staying in the Big10 this season since they won’t play anyone outside the conference.
Week Five
The run for the Buckeyes came to an abrupt end. Michigan State came in, beat up the Buckeyes, and stole the trophy for the first time in program history. The final score was 65-27.
Week Six
The Spartans would defend the MacGuffin Trophy with a win over the Oregon Ducks. The Ducks fought valiantly but lost 51-39.
Week Seven
The Battle for Michigan this season was a great game. The Spartans fought hard but would end up losing to the Wolverines, 37-24. Michigan stole the MacGuffin.
Week Eight
The MacGuffin Championship was also The Game in Season 22. Whoever won would be the Season 22 MacGuffin Champion. And Ohio State, after losing the MacGuffin just a few weeks earlier, would steal it back with a 45-24 win over Michigan.
This means the Ohio State Buckeyes are the Season 22 MacGuffin Champions!
