The recruiting cycle is always an exciting time in the CFSL and Season 20 was no different. This off-season brought with it a talented transfer class. The CFSL’s Recruiting Service once again got together to bring you this season’s Top 25 Transfer list.
The list was based on each player’s stats from last season. Without further ado, let’s dive into the Top 25.
#25 DT Myles Andrews
Old Team: Penn State
New Team: Baylor
Andrews quietly had a great season with Penn State last season. Now, however, he decided to take his talents to Waco and build on the production he made in his freshman season. It won’t be easy to do, however, as he had 17 TFLs and eight sacks last season. If he can, Baylor landed themselves a great defensive linemen.
#24 HB Christian Davis
Old Team: Baylor
New Team: Florida State
Davis is a senior who is coming off his best season. Last season with the Bears he rushed for over 400 yards at a 5.2 yards per carry average. Combine that with great hands out of the backfield and Florida State has landed something special in Davis.
#23 MLB Joey Dellamano
Old Team: Oklahoma State
New Team: Texas
Dellamano is fresh off a sophomore season that saw a massive increase in production (he more than tripled his tackle total from his freshman season). And he got better as the season wore on. Now Dellamano finds himself in the middle of a new-look Texas defense. He is a name to remember heading into Season 20.
#22 DT Perry Harrison
Old Team: Washington
New Team: Kentucky
Harrison is traveling across the country after a fantastic freshman season. Last season Harrison totaled 11 TFLs and five sacks for the Huskies. With Washington going the way of the dodo, Harrison needed a new home. He now heads to the reigning champs to help reinvent their stellar defensive line.
#21 OLB Adrimal Lasky
Old Team: Auburn
New Team: Penn State
Lasky is yet another player coming off their best season. Last season he totaled 67 tackles and seven TFLs for the Tigers. Now he has landed in Happy Valley looking to build on his momentum from last season. If he can, watch out Big 10 offenses.
#20 FS Benjamin Carter
Old Team: USC
New Team: Penn State
Carter had a great freshman season at USC, with 81 tackles. However, his days in Southern California have come to an end. Instead, he is headed to conference rival Penn State. The Nittany Lions got themselves a playmaker on the back end of the defense. And I can’t wait to see these two teams play now.
#19 FS Jarred Kline
Old Team: Boise State
New Team: Kentucky
Kline had a fantastic freshman season that included 62 tackles, 7 TFLs, and three interceptions. When Boise State closed its doors he made his way to Kentucky. No doubt Kline will have massive shoes to fill (after the graduation of all-time great Manti Delano), but he seems to be more than ready for the challenge. Quarterbacks better keep an eye out for this guy.
#18 HB Terrell Collins
Old Team: Eastern Michigan
New Team: Michigan
Some of you might not remember the name Terrell Collins, since he sat out in Season 19. But the do-it-all back had a massive freshman season with EMU in Season 18. He rushed for 687 yards on nearly six yards a carry and had 161 receiving yards on top of that. Now Collins is back to prove he can have the same impact he did before, but this time with Michigan.
#17 SS Jake Price
Old Team: Oklahoma State
New Team: Texas
Price has spent the last two seasons with Oklahoma State. In that time he has had 99 tackles and four interceptions. Price (like a few on this list) left with his coach to join Texas. The Longhorns landed a great strong safety in Price who seems poised to continue his growth.
#16 CB Ryne Mitchell
Old Team: Florida State
New Team: Oklahoma State
There were quite a few talented corners that came into the league last season (and you will see some on this list), but few were better than Mitchell. He amassed 50 tackles with three picks, one of which he took to the house. Mitchell left Tallahassee for Stillwater and now the Pokes have a great piece to build their defense around.
#15 OLB Holly Jax
Old Team: Syracuse
New Team: Alabama
Jax is heading into his senior season and is looking to end off strong. To this point, Jax has earned 158 tackles, 36 TFLs, and 11 sacks. This will be his fourth team in as many seasons, but Alabama will most likely be the strongest team he has played for. Could this be what he needs to jump from great to top of the league?
#14 QB Kolten Powell
Old Team: USC
New Team: Texas
Powell was quick to make a name for himself in his freshman season. Last season with the Trojans he threw for nearly 5,000 yards and 33 touchdowns (even if his interceptions were a bit high). Now the Texas native is headed home to fill the shoes that Jay Duke’s departure left empty. Can the freshman phenom build on his solid foundation and lead the Longhorns to greatness? Time will tell.
#13 WR Logan Wetzel
Old Team: Texas
New Team: Auburn
Former Texas AD Justin Duke left for Auburn and Wetzel decided to come along with him. And he had to be excited to keep his playmaker with him. Wetzel has amassed more than 2,200 receiving yards in his career and has consistently improved his production every year. If he can do it again he will be looking at a 1,000-yard season in his senior season. Good luck to the SEC defenses trying to stop this guy.
#12 DE/DT Owen Moreland
Old Team: Oklahoma State
New Team: Texas
There were only three freshmen with double-digit sacks last season. Moreland was one of them. He also added 19 TFLs. Now the All-American is in Austin looking to cause havoc for the Longhorns. Can he continue to be a high-level player in his new home?
#11 WR Dave Axis
Old Team: Pittsburgh
New Team: Florida State
Dave Axis announced his presence in a big way last season. He had 813 yards and 9 touchdowns with the Panthers last season. Now he is a highly sought-after recruit who has yet to make up his mind. We may not know where he is headed, but we do know that whoever lands him will get a WR with All-American potential.
#10 QB Jay Duke
Old Team: Texas
New Team: Auburn
The second-highest-rated QB in this transfer class is freshman phenom Jay Duke. Duke had a big year with the Longhorns last season, totaling 4,390 yards and 36 touchdowns. Duke packed his bags and left for Auburn after the season’s end. The Tigers have built a great WR corps, so the signs are looking up for Duke.
#9 WR Robert Ivory
Old Team: LSU
New Team: Michigan
After putting up 885 yards and nine touchdowns with Kentucky, Ivory left for LSU. There, he caught for 976 yards and seven touchdowns. His yards per game increased by more than 30 yards. Ivory, who is one of the best young WRs in the league, is now headed to Michigan to help the Wolverines catch that elusive title. Will he be the piece that puts them over the top?
#8 WR Thanatos Shockley
Old Team: Texas
New Team: Michigan State
Shockley had over 900 yards and nine touchdowns as a freshman for Texas, which put him in elite company. After that, he decided it was time for a new home. The newest home, actually. Shockley is now with the newly formed Michigan State Spartans. Michigan State AD Anthonio McDaniel landed himself a whale at wideout.
#7 CB Percy King
Old Team: Texas
New Team: Auburn
King is a self-proclaimed loudmouth, but his play lived up to the bravado. Last season he snagged five interceptions and had another ten pass breakups. After this incredible freshman season, King decided to follow Duke to Auburn. I know I am not alone in saying they can’t wait to see how the freshman grows.
#6 CB Adrian Sampson
Old Team: Washington
New Team: Undecided
Sampson just finished his junior (and best) season. His one year with Washington saw him nab four interceptions, get four TFLs, seven pass deflections, and a forced fumble. Now he is looking for a new home in his senior season and has yet to make a choice. Whoever lands him will have a great corner on their hands.
#5 SS Chet Owens
Old Team: Texas
New Team: Auburn
Owens has 161 career tackles, ten interceptions, three forced fumbles, and 20 tackles for loss throughout three seasons with three different schools. Now he is headed to his fourth, and final, school, and Auburn is more than glad to have him. Could something special be brewing at Auburn?
#4 OLB Blake Barrow
Old Team: Cincinnati
New Team: Undecided
The do-it-all linebacker had a massive sophomore season with the Bearcats. He had 80 tackles, 15 TFLs, one interception, and six pass breakups. Barrow has yet to announce where he will be playing next season, but wherever it is, I am sure he will be a playmaker.
#3 TE Deebo Thomas
Old Team: Washington
New Team: Oregon
Who says tight ends don’t get love? Thomas was on the shortlist for the best tight end in the CFSL last season thanks to putting up over 632 yards. Washington closed up shop in the CFSL, but Thomas decided to stay in the Pacific Northwest when he signed with Oregon. Now the Ducks have one of the best TEs in the league and I am excited to see what they can do with it.
#2 WR Ryan Hall
Old Team: Florida
New Team: LSU
Hall had respectable numbers in his first two seasons, but it was his junior season that made him a household name. Hall had 1,362 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns last season. He averaged more than 113 yards per game. Now the senior is headed to LSU to help the Tigers continue their early success. They have to be excited to land such a star.
#1 QB Beau Dale
Old Team: Florida
New Team: LSU
The top WR in the transfer class will be playing with the top QB. Beau ‘Denim’ Dale is within arm’s length of rewriting the record book completely. The fantastic signal caller will have the weapons he needs to be special at LSU. Now it is up to him to crush all of those records. Good luck brother.
