The Season 22 Schedules are out! Big shout out to @johnnyv76v for the great graphic.
Now that we know the schedules, it is time to look at each team’s strength of schedule. For those who don’t know, SOS is created by how their opponents finished last season. Teams can change a lot in a single season, so these SOSs will change plenty by the end of the season. In other words, this is for fun and not to be taken as definitive evidence that your team has a hard or easy schedule. With that said, let’s take a look.
Strength of Schedule
Rank | Team | SOS |
1 | Colorado | .600 |
2 | Auburn | .598 |
3 | Texas A&M | .592 |
4 | Kentucky | .584 |
5 | Georgia | .579 |
5 | USC | .579 |
7 | Miami | .558 |
8 | Florida State | .542 |
9 | Penn State | .541 |
10 | Ohio State | .533 |
11 | Florida | .507 |
11 | Virginia Tech | .507 |
13 | Michigan | .493 |
14 | Michigan State | .466 |
15 | Oklahoma | .466 |
16 | Texas | .459 |
17 | North Carolina | .458 |
18 | LSU | .452 |
19 | Alabama | .438 |
20 | Clemson | .423 |
21 | Tennessee | .413 |
22 | Oregon | .408 |
23 | West Virginia | .394 |
24 | Notre Dame | .362 |
Colorado has the toughest schedule according to last season’s finish. They Ohio State, Kentucky, and Florida State in out-of-conference play, all of which won at least seven games last season. They also have a tougher in-conference schedule thanks to Texas A&M and Texas having a better overall record than Colorado last season.
Another interesting takeaway was the SEC having the toughest total SOS last season. There was a lot of talk of the SEC replacing the Big10 as the CFSL’s best conference last season. The evidence would support this claim.
Notre Dame will have the easiest schedule, thanks in large part to the ACC having the worst total SOS of any conference last season. They play Tennessee, West Virginia, and Oregon in out-of-conference play, who combined for one win last season.
As stated at the beginning of this article, this is all subject to major change. Teams can change a lot in a single offseason. Just ask Ohio State, who finished last place in the Big10 in Season 20, but were the conference champs in Season 22.
Good luck to every team this season!
