Week 2 in the JTR always features plenty of movement and Season 22 will be no different. This week featured many big movers up (and down) the JTR Leaderboard. Let’s get into it!
How JTR Works
JTR ranks players by comparison to the league average using unbiased stats. By unbiased stats, we mean stats that don’t show a preference for one style of play over another. For example, we expect a quarterback in an air raid system to throw the ball more often than a quarterback in a multiple set. So comparing the two based on completions wouldn’t be fair. Once we determine stats that we believe to be unbiased, we create a league average. Outperforming the league average earns a player positive points. Stats that fall below the league average will earn a player negative points. Points for each stat are calculated and combined with a base rating given to each player. The combination results in a player’s JTR metric score. 0 is the worst possible score and 100 is the best possible score.
For QBs, the stats we chose to use are completion percentage, yards per attempt, touchdown percentage, interception percentage, passing yards per game, and unique rushing index. The rushing index excludes sacks from a quarterback’s rush totals to get a more accurate sense of them as a runner. Also, QBs cannot take negative points from the rushing index (outside of fumbles). This is because a running ability for a quarterback is a plus, but not a requirement.
JTR is not a predictive metric. It cannot tell the future. It can only measure what a player has done up to that point.

Findings
This week, we have a new leader on the JTR Leaderboard. Alabama’s Johnny Ray Davis had a huge week against Clemson. Davis threw for 437 yards and five touchdowns while also rushing for 77 yards and another pair of touchdowns. This is Davis’ first time holding the top spot.
While Davis had a big improvement in his score, he was not the player with the best-improved score. That honor belongs to West Virginia QB Gunner Rice. Rice started his season badly, but he dominated in the second game of the season. Rice had 643 total yards and nine total touchdowns against Notre Dame this week. Other big movers include Colorado’s Sky Sanders, Texas’ Spunky Tolbert, and Alabama’s Johnny Ray Davis.
Despite the big move in points, Rice didn’t move up the board enough to be in the biggest movers this week. The top mover was Texas’ Spunky Tolbert, who jumped 12 spots in the rankings to make his top 10 debut. This was thanks to a 518 passing yard performance, in which he had six total touchdowns. Other big movers were Colorado’s Sky Sanders (+11 spots), Michigan’s Windham Carter (+9 spots), and Johnny Ray Davis (+6 spots). Overall, this might have been the biggest total movement by the top four movers that we have ever seen.
A few bounce-back games had people jumping up the board a lot this week. There were also a few players that came crashing back to earth after starting red hot. Week 3 has plenty of interesting matchups that will have a profound impact on the leaderboard.
Good luck to all 24 gunslingers in the CFSL.
