Week 2 of Conference Play

In Week 5 of Season 22 of the CFSL, we are officially in Week 2 of conference play, and it was an exciting week in the ACC. We witnessed teams solidifying their positions as top contenders not only in the ACC but also in the CFSL as a whole. However, we also saw a few teams struggle during this week of play.

Three-Way Tie For First

Currently, we have a three-way tie for first place in the division among Virginia Tech, the University of Miami, and the University of North Carolina. It is likely to be a closely contested battle until the end of the season to determine who will be crowned the ACC Champions. However, there is still a lot of football to be played this season. Let’s take a closer look at these three teams leading the ACC and explore what their performance reveals.

Notre Dame vs North Carolina

This game demonstrated that North Carolina has a strong scoring ability, often achieving impressive point totals. Quarterback Kevin Price had an outstanding performance, completing 27 of 36 passes for 416 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. This effort helped him maintain his position at number two in the JTR QB Rankings. In the matchup against Notre Dame, Price connected with wide receivers Brooks, Adams, and Enge, as well as tight end Frederick, for touchdowns.

Miami VS Clemson

This week’s blog was initially intended to focus on the top three contenders who are tied in the ACC. However, I can’t help but mention how well Clemson has been competing week in and week out. They certainly made it challenging for Miami to secure a victory against them this week.

Now that’s out of the way, let’s talk about Miami and how Lisa Pink played a crucial role in leading the Miami Hurricanes to victory over the Clemson Tigers. She completed 39 out of 56 passes for 320 yards, with three touchdowns through the air, one rushing touchdown, and one interception. While her performance kept her in the JTR QB Rankings, it, unfortunately, caused her to drop from spot four to nine.

On the defensive side, Miami’s cornerback Jack Jones had an outstanding game, recording three tackles, and two interceptions—one of which was a pick-six. His impressive performance helped him emerge as a candidate for Defensive Player of the Week.

Virginia Tech vs Florida State

This was an exciting game to watch, especially as it came down to the final minutes of play. Virginia Tech managed to score and emerge victorious against the Seminoles. It should be noted this game emerged as a candidate for Game of The Week.

Key factors contributing to Virginia Tech’s victory over the Florida State Seminoles included Saint Major’s impressive performance. He completed 41 of 59 passes for 444 yards, with 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Additionally, Saint Major showcased his dual-threat ability by rushing for 14 yards and 2 touchdowns. His performance elevated him from 14th to 12th in the JTR QB Rankings. Major connected with Williams, Jefferies, and Orndorff for his 3 touchdown passes.

On another note, this game demonstrated that Florida State can compete with top teams, but they ultimately fell short.

Potential ACC Game of the Week

This will be a week of football I’ve been patiently waiting for in the ACC. My prediction is that the ACC game of the week will be Virginia Tech at Miami neither one of them is going to go down early as both are vying to be top dogs in the ACC.
