Week Seven: Nebraska vs. Ohio State & Alabama vs. Florida

The Penultimate week of the CSFL Season will end with two great games. Playoff stakes are has high as ever and these matchups will finalize all of the story lines heading into rivalry week.

Nebraska vs Ohio StAte

Nebraska is on a skid right now. After winning week one Nebraska has lost five straight. While a postseason bid is most likely out of the question they can do their best to ruin others. James Kovach continues his great season through the air as he is currently third in passing yards in the league. His partner in the backfield, Dowdy Dowell has put up 464 yards on the ground this year and has been great in the red zone where he’s done most of his damage this season. He has seven rushing touchdowns on the season. Freshman receiver Blaze Gunner is currently second in the league in receiving yards and continues to burn opposing defenses.

The Cornhuskers defense is currently allowing the fewest passing yards in the league and this is in no small part to how this team is built. Defensive end Jabril Jackson has had an excellent senior campaign as he does a great job at making opposing Quarterbacks uncomfortable. Safety Stokely Ferdinand and corner Austin Johnson have stifled opposing receivers all year.

The Buckeyes come in as the favorite to win the Big Ten and has a big favorite over this Nebraska team. Signal-caller Xavier Garcia-Allen and tailback Frost Carlson are a dynamic rushing attack and create problems for opposing defenses with their legs. Carlson is even leading the league in rushing yards and touchdowns.

The Sharks are what makes this Ohio State team. Safety Kevin Brackett and corners Tom Pence and Juan Cantu make this one of the most formidable secondaries in the league. Add in elite linebacker Martavis Marriott and you begin to see why the Ohio State team is a title contender.

Final: Nebraska 17, Ohio State 38

Alabama vs FlOrida

The Crimson Tide will roll into Gainesville looking to make a statement. The backfield tandem of freshman signal-caller Balion Siege and halfback Joe Pantoja can take over games at a moments notice. The duo has almost 1,500 yards on the ground and Siege is no slouch in the passing game. Tight end Houston Freeman is the type of player who elevates those around him. He isn’t afraid to make a devastating downfield block to set up one of his fellow team mates for a touchdown but he can just as rise up and catch a touchdown of his own.

On defense Alabama allows the second fewest rushing yards in the league. Defensive ends Jackson Adok and Richard Bradley are great at disrupting plays before they ever happen. Opposing tailbacks and quarterbacks alike fear the duo. Safeties Zackary Carter, Lamar Fant and Thomas Cole help legitimize this secondary. All are just as comfortable coming downhill at full speed as they are at breaking up a pass.

Florida still can make the playoffs but this is a must win game for the Gators. Freshman quarterback Mathias St John has gotten progressively better each week he plays. With his first campaign almost over it will be interesting to see how well he can play against this tough Alabama Defense. Halfback Avery Jordan has 628 yards so far and has picked up another four scores on the ground. Receivers Darren Pegues and Nick King have been St John’s favorite targets and this trend should continue this week.

Defensively for the Gators they need to rely on their stars. Linebacker Wyatt King has already made a name for himself. He has racked up the tackles this season and become an anchor for this unit while doing so.  Corner Dakota Wolf has slowed down since his blazing start to the season but is still a key piece for this defense. He is as fast as can be and cane make a play on the ball in the blink of an eye. Mohammad Dmour at Defensive End has been great at getting at quarterbacks and will look to give Siege trouble this game.

Final: Alabama 38, Florida 28
