KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Ohio State Buckeyes, bouncing back from their season opener, dominated the Tennessee Volunteers with a 42-7 victory in Knoxville, marking Tennessee’s 26th consecutive loss in the CFSL. Ohio State’s quarterback Brantley Gauci was the star of the show, throwing for 306 yards and four touchdowns, and stunning the crowd with a 41-yard touchdown run.
The Buckeyes set the tone early with a touchdown pass to Hunter Schueren in the first quarter. Gauci continued his aerial assault with touchdown passes to Emanuel Anoai, Andrew Byrd, and Trey Hamilton in the subsequent quarters. The fourth quarter saw a defensive highlight for Ohio State, with Billy Jude returning an interception 55 yards for a touchdown. Tennessee’s lone score came from a 1-yard run by Mykel Vanderslice, but it was too little too late.
Ohio State’s defense was equally impressive, limiting Tennessee to just 290 total yards. The Buckeyes’ defensive line, featuring Rocky Musso and Daniel Bingham, consistently pressured Tennessee’s quarterback Kyson Carey, who was intercepted three times. Ohio State improved to 1-1, while Tennessee’s record losing streak extended to 26 games, leaving them at 0-2 for the season.
