ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — In a Week 2 CFSL showdown, the #7 Michigan Wolverines delivered a dominant performance, crushing the Washington Huskies 49-21 at Michigan Stadium. The Wolverines’ offense, led by quarterback Greg Cooksey, was unstoppable, amassing a staggering 500 yards, with Cooksey throwing for 356 yards and three touchdowns. Michigan’s RaQ Rhodes was a force on the ground, rushing for four touchdowns and adding a fifth on a 21-yard reception.
The game began with an explosive first quarter, seeing both teams trading touchdowns. Michigan’s Rhodes opened the scoring with a 1-yard run, answered quickly by Washington’s Deebo Thomas with a 5-yard catch from Owen Dart. However, Michigan’s Nathaniel Thomas caught a 22-yard pass from Cooksey, regaining the lead for the Wolverines.
In the second quarter, Washington’s John Turner caught an 8-yard pass from Dart, but Michigan responded powerfully with Cassian Eichenberg hauling in a 56-yard pass from Cooksey. The third quarter saw another touchdown from Rhodes, further solidifying Michigan’s control.
The final quarter was a showcase of Michigan’s relentless offense. Washington’s Troy Monney scored on a 27-yard pass from Dart, but it was overshadowed by Rhodes’ three consecutive touchdowns, including a dazzling 21-yard catch from Cooksey. Jester Blewitt’s perfect kicking game contributed significantly to Michigan’s scoring.
Defensively, Michigan also excelled, limiting Washington to 314 yards. The Wolverines’ defense, led by Axel Holgersen and Daemon Ike, consistently disrupted Washington’s plays, contributing to the Huskies’ struggle to find a rhythm.
