Born and raised in the bustling megapolis of São Paulo, Brazil, Marcelo grew up primarily playing soccer, as a goalkeeper for a local team’s youth academy. However, a chance encounter with a Texas HS football coach (who was on vacation in the country) would convince him to switch over to American Football. His handling and jumping skills developed as a goalkeeper allowed him to utilize his unique background to transition into American football. In order to allow Marcelo to follow his dream, his family moved to Massachusetts, in Marlborough – one of the cities with the biggest Brazilian-American population in the country – for him to play varsity football. In only two years as a starter for Marlborough High, Marcelo was able to solidify himself as one of the state’s leading wide receivers, and also becoming an accomplished track and field athlete. Marcelo hopes to continue his football career at the collegiate level, as his intensive and relentless work ethic, along with his unique set of abilities, make him a great prospect.
