Was a 5 sport athlete in high school, playing basketball, football, baseball, golf and track & field in Baltimore, Maryland at Milford Mill Academy in Windsor Mill, Maryland a Baltimore County in Maryland. Basketball was his first love, which many believe he would choose to pursue at the collegiate level…but all this change his senior year.
He was Mr. Basketball his first freshman, sophomore and junior years in the state of Maryland, and won a state championship 2 of those years and even ranked #1 in the country as a team his junior year. He played pretty much every position on the basketball court, but his natural position was SG/SF. Well rounded game, and his long wingspan made him a terror on defense to get a shot on. If he choose to pursue basketball, the odds were he would had been a phenom as a collegiate star.
This changed, when he had a conversation with his youngest uncle Brandon who was like his big brother after a pickup football game at another school’s football field versus top players from that region. Malcom was already playing Varsity football for Milford Mill Academy, who his other uncle Reggie was the renowned head coach of. His uncle Brandon played in the pickup game with him, and seen that Malcom was clearly better than the other star players on offense and defense, but knew that Streets was the backup QB to his cousin Reggie Jr. who was a junior at the time. Brandon told him, although he knows Malcom is a great basketball player and could be great at any sport or anything he put his mind to, the twinkle in his eye when he played football was completely different and he could tell that football had became his true love. Malcom was hesitant at first, but after talking to his uncle some more over the course of a months time…he agreed with him to really give football the maximum effort it deserved and he deserved to be truly happy.
This wasn’t easy because his cousin Reggie Jr. was the starting QB at the time. Malcom continued to work on his game, especially his arm and his reads. Mid way through the season, Reggie Jr. got hurt and it was Malcok time to shine and boy did…he did just that, besides a few hiccups his first series. After that, it was the stuff legends are build on. He looked better than his cousin, who was #1 in the state at pretty much every QB statistical category. The fans went crazy during and after each spectacular performance/win, and it just even more crazy as the season went on.
Reggie Jr. returned after healing from his injury late that season, ready to make that push in the playoffs. Malcom gracefully step aside, to let his cousin take back over. Fans loved Reggie Jr., but many wanted Malcom back despite the winning ways continued. It wasn’t till Reggie Jr. went to Malcom with a idea, that would possibly helped them both. He knew with Malcom being 6’4″ playing the QB the position the way he did as more as a pocket QB, and only scrambling when need be although he was good at it…would translate better at the next level and pros to most scout, oppose to his dual threat style as a 6’2″ QB and that most teams would give him more looks at WR. Malcom wasn’t ok with this at first, but the more Reggie Jr. insisted that it was actually what he wanted. Malcom went with it, and from there they didn’t lose another game together. Reggie Jr. went in to Monmouth a small school before signing onto the Giants as a unsigned free agent.
Malcom went onto three Mr. Footballs, one national title he won with Reggie Jr., during Reggie’s senior year and 3 state titles. This was all great, but Malcom had a chip on his shoulder, because although many scouts said he had the best arm in his senior class they ranked him #3 in the country out of all QBs. With this he had a point to prove, so during the off-season he worked with some of the best trainers, to work on his game and to become the best QB recruit in the country. Only time will tell, if he succeeds at doing that and what will he do in the next chapter of his life, as quarterback at the collegiate level. Is this beginning of The Legend that is Malcom Streets??? Stay tuned, to find out…
