A highly touted receiver out of Meigs, OH, Holmes grew up a huge fan of ‘Smoking’ Joe Idol. So much so he wore number 18 in his honor. His senior year his High School had the best season in program history, making it to the state finals for the first time ever.
The game was one for the ages, highlight after highlight. It came down to the wire. Meigs had the football at the 5 yard line with 1 play left, needing a touchdown to win it. Everyone knew who the ball was going to.
Amazingly Holmes ran a fade route and found no one near him! QB recognized it and lunched it to him and hit Holmes in the hands.
And then hit the ground. A drop! The other team ran onto the field celebrating and Holmes was left devastated. That same night he was seen at the football field practicing catches, swearing to never let a moment like that slip by again as he readies himself for college.
