Meigs High School was coming off a troubling time, the team just lost the state championship after Xavius Holmes’ drop pass, and with an amazing senior class graduated, the football program was left with little talent. Enter Beau Justice.
As a freshmen, he managed to get to varsity after a string of injuries, and he led the team in a total of zero sacks. A disaster filled season for them, but Beau loved every moment on the field. The next season he had a growth spurt and made varsity, and managed 3 sacks in a 1-7 season. Junior year was gonna be his year. Yet another growth spurt, Beau became physically imposing, and recorded a career high 7 sacks for the season as the Marauders ended the season 3-5.
Heading into his senior year, Beau debated whether or not to play, but after a movie inspiring speech by his coach, decided to try to get Meigs back into the playoffs. The season was a thrill for the students, every game ending in a single score difference. Luckily for Beau, he had the school record 16 sacks, and they finished the season with a chance at playoffs, they just had to beat Athens.
The game was one for the ages, and came down to the wire. The score was 14-16 Athens winning and with the ball late. Somehow Justice broke free and had a strip sack, recovering the ball, and racing to score, but gets caught from behind. With 6 seconds left at the 5 yard line, Meigs lined up for an easy kick…. AND MISSED! After coming so close to a state championship just 5 years ago, Meigs have been kept out and just blew a perfect opportunity. Beau was heartbroken, but became resolved to be a force in college and help a program make the playoffs and win it all.
